Chicago-based Michelle Grabner’s practice incorporates art making, curating, and writing. Throughout much of her 30-year-plus career, patterns have emerged as a dominant theme. In this untitled work, a small, hand-knit item is cast in bronze, rendering the soft, drooping object hard and permanent. The translation of the object from yarn to bronze highlights the patterns inherent in this domestic activity and also elevates the humble nature of the process. Grabner recently co-curated the 2014 Whitney Biennial. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at institutions worldwide, and her work is included in numerous public collections.
