oil, silverpoint, and marble dust ground on panel
22 3/4 x 19 1/2 inches

Scott Olson’s works re-engage formal and material modes of expression in the realm of abstract painting. Olson creates his works through careful layering, scraping, and glazing, producing intimate works with an amazing depth and range of tones. This luminous work on marble dust panel reveals a variety of washes, stains, and sanded-off passages, all held in balance by Olson’s succinct composition. As in many of his works, the artist has left a large empty border, further emphasizing the rectangular convention of traditional painting. Scott Olson lives and works in Ohio. Recent solo shows include Galerie Nordenhake in Stockholm in 2011 and Taxter & Spengemann in New York in 2010.
