Sam Salisbury’s self-portraits take the form or semi-surrealist, deeply psychological renderings. In this work, the face is amorphous, shifting and duplicating, with multiple perspectives visible at once. The work’s effect is less spatial and more mental, suggesting a multilayered psyche and a divided self. Salisbury received his BFA from The Art Institute of Chicago in 2001. Solo exhibitions include Patricia Low Contemporary, Gstaad; Rodolphe Janssen Galerie, Brussels; Medium, St. Barth; Alison Jacques Gallery, London; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Group exhibitions include Schuebbe Projects, Dusseldorf; MUDAM, Luxembourg; Evangelos Averoff Museum, Metsovo; Donald Young Gallery, Chicago; Marc Jancou Contemporary, New York; and Bucketrider Gallery, Chicago.
