Jackson Denahy’s figurative works possess a distilled, yet urgent, style of paint application, as if he were trying to focus on the most essential pictorial elements, but is having trouble focusing. This lends the works an awkward, playful appearance, not to mention a bit of mystery. In this untitled work from 2020, a figure in an open field poses in an awkward elbow stand, left anonymous by the shirt slouching over their face. Denahy’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Bienvenu Steinberg and Partner, New York (forthcoming); Five Myles, Brooklyn; Karl Marx Studio, Paris; and Brautarholt, Reykjavik.
