Anthony Sonnenberg’s ceramic sculptures call to mind elaborately ornamented Baroque and Rococo objects. Flowers, ribbons, and found tchotchkes pile up in towering assemblages that conjure the beauty and excess of an earlier age. In Candelabra (Pink Riot), a bright pink glaze creates a uniform surface, though the drips and bulging cracks hint at the contradictory pleasures beauty provides. Sonnenberg has exhibited his work in galleries and museums throughout the US.
