The finished paintings of New York artist Blake Rayne act as evidence of their creation rather than stand-alone works. For this series, Rayne unfolds and manipulates steel bands and uses them as stencils, letting the paper clips that initially held them together fall on the canvas. The band and clips mask acrylic pigment he applies to the canvas, and the resulting painting shows the line looping around the navy field of color. Rayne has exhibited throughout the US and Europe, and his works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney.
