The passage of time, youth and aging, and the relationship between humans and objects all show up in the work of Danish artist Nina Beier. In her Fatigues body of work, she selects fabrics designed for public spaces that claim to be vandal, stain, or wear-and-tear resistant, and then dyes, stains, and bleaches them. Not only does Beier test their commercial claims and physical limits, but she simulates the life, human interaction, and progression of time that the fabrics claim they can ward off. It is perhaps no accident that the resulting work is both conceptually and visually poetic. Beier’s recent solo exhibitions include Nina Beier at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, and Four Stomachs at Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp.
