Through her unique approach to the properties of everyday materials like pins, toothpicks, and tape, Tara Donovan transforms the mundane into the sublime. In her recent series of ‘drawings’ made from insect screen, Donovan carefully shifts and cuts the tiny metal wires of the mesh to create a range of subtle optical effects characteristic of her longstanding interest in the physical and temporal nature of vision. Solo museum exhibitions of Donovan’s work have been held at Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Saint Louis Art Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; ICA, Boston; and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk. Her work is held in the collections of Indianapolis Museum of Art; LACMA, Los Angeles; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among others.
