New York-based Emma Soucek paints her abstract works with pigmented paper pulp, pushing the material into the canvas. Soucek blends the edges of color blocks into the next by pinching or pleating, combining the paper fibers to form new colors and sculptural forms. Her bold colors and color harmonies are inspired by natural pigments, as well as her extensive study of artists Howardena Pindell, Sam Gilliam, and Milton Avery. Soucek received her B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2018. Her work was featured in a solo presentation at NADA Miami 2019 and has been included in two-person and group exhibitions at: Safe Gallery, Brooklyn; Loyal Gallery, Stockholm; Marinaro, New York; At Peace Gallery, Brooklyn; Jenkins Johnson Gallery, Brooklyn; and CANADA, New York.
