glass, silver, and cork
13 x 7 7/8 x 1 1/8 inches

Hungarian jewelry artist Veronika Fabian crafted this glass chain out of pieces of a bottle from the Portuguese wine company, Casal Garcia. She aptly titled this necklace, Saude!, meaning Cheers! in Portuguese. Saude! is part of Fabian’s series You, Me, and Your Stuff, which she exhibited at Galerie Marzee in the Netherlands this past year. Describing this project, Fabian states, “I am making chains by reconstructing everyday objects identified as being important in people’s lives. Using jewelry as an intermediary between the self and society and as a mediator of value and identity, the work explores the lasing bond we have with our objects.” This series seeks to “stimulate a dialogue on the necessity and value of our things. Fabian earned her BA in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London in 2018 and her MA in Challenging Jewelry from the Sandberg Instituut, Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2020. Before finding her passion for jewelry making, she originally studied economic policy and worked as a financial analyst for seven years. Her background and career journey influences her work, especially when exploring how people assign different kinds of value to objects in today’s consumerist society. Among many awards, Fabian has won a Marzee Graduate Prize, the Cartier Scholarship, and the Swarovski “Power of Transformation” Prize. She has exhibited internationally and has works in multiple prestigious collections including the National Museum of Scotland, the CODA Museum in The Netherlands, and the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest.
