Perverse, darkly humorous, and somehow spot on in their social acuity, Nolan Simon’s paintings capture a range of odd scenarios with a cagey narrative quality that feels like a fragment of a bigger moment. His paintings are based on images he comes across and are the result of both digital printing (dye sublimation) and hand-painting processes. Given the Impression of Discovering America depicts what looks like a pair of men’s hands grabbing a beer tucked in a yellow bikini, not-so-subtly hinting at myriad sexual and political metaphors for our current moment. Simon’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at galleries in US and Europe.
