Dallas-based Joan Winter’s meditative paintings and prints aim to capture the elusiveness of light, movement, time, and memory. Her beautiful works investigate the shifts that happen as time passes during the day and light shifts with changing weather or seasons. The subtle gradation in Dusk is built from multiple layers of hand-mixed natural mineral pigments, creating the translucent white oil paint that rises from the bottom of this intimate canvas. Winter was born in Fort Worth and studied art and architecture at Texas Tech before receiving her MFA from SMU. Her work has been shown in Japan, Peru, and across Texas.
