American born artist Jason Willaford makes colorful organic and geometric forms that combine aspects of both painting and sculpture. Willaford is known for his experimentations with vinyl, which he has continued to modify and transform in his newest body of work. Willaford now uses intuitive decision making to direct his painterly manipulation of the plastic material. His paint application hides and accentuates the separation and unification of many different shapes. In moments of the work there is a metallic appearance countered by a synthetic doughiness which causes a tension-filled relationship. The artist’s arrangement of so many colliding hues makes for a lively destruction and resurrection of the vinyl, a complex offering demanding a close look. Willaford has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Dallas Contemporary and Oklahoma Contemporary, and has had his work shown in Texas, Florida, and New York City.
