Clare Woods’ has been focusing on building form through her use of enamel and oil paint for more than twenty years. Painting from photographic resources and other found imagery, her shadowy landscapes, lyrically handled figuration, or nature-based close-ups share a fluidity in paint application that makes for a strikingly emotive quality. The concept of scale, and its varying relationships to subject matter in her paintings, becomes integral to Woods’ Amnesia. The proximity to undulating pedals and saturated yellow hues against streams of light and shadow allow the viewer to witness a small flower on a larger scale, while keeping with this intimate and timeless interaction between human and nature. Woods has shown extensively in galleries all over the world and throughout the UK. Most recently Woods has shown at Dundee Contemporary Arts; Pallant House Gallery, Chichester; and Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry.
