In Austrian artist Florian Schmidt’s mixed media constructions, he assembles wood panel scraps coated in acrylic, vinyl, or cardboard over a wooden support, generating a complex network of lines and angles. Schmidt thinly paints the fragments a unifying color allowing the material’s texture to remain visible. Many of these wood pieces are recycled from earlier “paintings,” gaining a second life and linking them together. Schmidt was born in Austria and has exhibited internationally.
