Spanish artist Secundino Hernández produces sparse paintings featuring gestural brushstrokes and scraped paint. For this series, he exposes the linen fabric behind his lyrical abstractions by spraying the paintings with a heavy-duty pressure washer, carving into his composition. The remaining scraps of color cling to the raw linen, with the resulting work incorporating both chance and design. Hernández lives in Madrid, and he has recently shown work in Shanghai, Vienna, Helsinki, Miami, and Berlin.
