American artist Lynn Batchelder’s pin is part of a series of works that explore the processes and tools that are shared by printmakers and jewelers. Here, the challenge is how to inscribe lines in space, to make three-dimensional what is two-dimensional when the printmaker implies space by incising lines onto the etching plate. The delicate mesh of copper is created by applying conducive paint with a brush onto wax forms before electroforming them. Set next to a silver form that mirrors the open weave of the copper element, the tremulous quality and gentle optical shimmer of Batchelder’s drawing in space is emphasized. Batchelder was the recipient of Art Jewelry Forum’s Artist Award in 2016, and her work is represented in private collections in the US.
