All aspects of painter Robert Sagerman’s practice are designed to keep him in touch with the material process of art making. He mills his own pigments for his subtly colored abstractions, and the title of each piece comes from the number of palette knife strokes used to apply the thick whorls of paint. This disciplined working method comes, in part, from his interest in Kabbalist Mysticism, which he studied during his PhD at NYU. Sagerman lives and works in Jersey City, and his work is in public and private collections in the US.
