Ana Prata

SUMMER

2015
oil on canvas
11 3/4 x 9 3/8 inches

Each work by Brazilian painter Ana Prata contains its own internal logic, though sets and themes emerge. Some paintings draw inspiration and subject matter from the history of 20th century painting, while others depict imaginary landscapes and tropical islands in the visual language of a children’s drawing. As in Summer, Prata reduces the elements of the painting down to the most basic symbol, seen here with a splotch of orange and minimal palm tree standing in for all the emotional weight attached to the season. Based in São Paulo, Prata has exhibited in South America and Europe.
