PRIVATE SECTOR

2016
paper, ink, and mending tape
31 inches in diameter

Annabel Daou’s delicate constructions embody some of the most psychologically charged ideas in contemporary life. Private Sector is made up of a radial web of paper and mending tape (dyed red by the artist), each bearing a phrase that conveys the complex nature of privacy. Personal and political issues come up in the phrases, and as the viewer reads them they are forced to confront their feelings about a range of current hot-button topics. Daou’s work has been included in numerous one-person and group exhibitions, including the 2011 Venice Biennale (representing Lebanon, where she was born).
