Dallas designer and artist Raegan McKinney’s creations prominently feature his talent for organizing a variety of elements into cohesive and interesting arrangements that carefully consider color, texture, and the relationship of the individual parts to the whole. In Observers Observed 3, the amalgamation of masks, busts, and decorative pieces outline a broad section of popular culture, as well as trends in folk art and interior design from the 20th century. Familiar faces emerge from the grouping, along with recognizable cartoon characters and cultural stereotypes. The different materials – plaster, papier maché, plastic, pottery, and porcelain – reflect the changing media used for these decorative pieces.
