HEADSWILL

2014
oil on linen
39 3/8 x 31 1/2 inches

British artist Ryan Mosley makes absurdly delightful paintings of carnival-esque characters that invite the viewer into his unique and imaginative world. In the recently completed Headswill, the painting has the powerful, yet ghostly, presence of Picasso’s Rose Period, a series in which Picasso depicted a harlequin dressed in checkered pattern clothing. And yet, the work feels remarkably contemporary due to its casual and bold approach to image making. Mosley’s work has been featured in significant group shows at institutions such as S1 Artspace, Sheffield; Modem Museum, Budapest; Contemporary British Art, City Gallery, Prague; and Royal Academy of Arts, London.
