Jessica Jackson Hutchins transforms life into art, creating sculptures and collages from everyday objects. Hutchins has said, “Transformation, evidence of work, accidents, the time contained in the humanity of the objects – all that stuff is crucial to get at what I’m trying to get at, which is a way of connecting to the world, ways of knowing ourselves through the things we encounter.” The title of this works suggests that life is an eternal merry-go-round, and Hutchins features her daughters’ toys to speak to the chaos of domestic life, relationships, and motherhood. Jessica Jackson Hutchins lives and works in Berlin and Portland. Her work was included in the 2010 Whiteny Biennial, and is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Seattle Art Museum; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the Portland Art Museum.
