4th artist proof
Toys, sports, and the rituals of play are deftly examined in the work of Guatemala-born artist Dario Escobar. In this work, the elegant, hexagonal geometry that makes up a soccer ball is taken apart and sewn back together inside-out. Escobar has left the thread and stitching visibly loose, hinting at his own process-based approach to the object. Dario Escobar studied traditional artisanal practices in Guatemala and Spain. He now lives and works in Guatemala City. Escobar’s work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas, Austin; the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Durham; La Colección JUMEX, Mexico City; DAROS Latinamerica Collection, Zurich; and the Miami Art Museum.
