Lauren Quin draws from a pool of the unformed and the entropic to render shapes caught in a process of emergence or recession. Parts grow out of other parts. And like bacteria, material starts to infect and invade. Her mark-making implies a passage between or network among dimensions that generate sensuality and movement. They reveal a nimble boundary between fetish and foul, blood and marrow, purity and perversion.
Quin’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions including her first US museum show My Hellmouth, Nerman Museum of Art, Overland Park; Logopanic, 125 Newbury, New York; Sagittal Fours, Pond Society, Shanghai; Pulse Train Howl, Blum & Poe, Los Angeles; and Vocal Fry, Friends Indeed Gallery, San Francisco; and group exhibitions such as Fire Figure Fantasy: Selections from ICA Miami’s Collection, Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; and The Descendants, curated by Melanie Lum, Micki Meng, and Kevin Poon at K11 MUSEA, Hong Kong. Her work is held in numerous public collections including the Columbus Museum of Art; Dallas Museum of Art; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; Long Museum, Shanghai; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, among others.
