Alexa Guariglia’s work often features female figures enmeshed in meticulous, allover patterned space. Here, a dizzying architectural setting is populated by a series of idealized female statues, while a few visitors appear to stroll by the lower right. The title is a play on “squaring the circle”—a geometry problem going back thousands of years—which feels entirely appropriate given the range of Guariglia’s historically inspired geometric motifs. However, the artist flips the words so the phrase takes on a playful twist, implying a walk around public square. Guariglia’s work has been included in solo and group exhibitions at venues throughout the US.
