Vision is the recurring subject of Japanese artist Jiro Kamata. Well-known for his use of eyeglass and camera lenses set like precious gems, this brooch explores the technical wonder of dichroic glass, a material that displays two different colors depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The Corian background, usually found in kitchen benchtops, becomes a stage or palette for the three rectangles of glass and their technically advanced color transitions that are generated by, and dependent on, the movements of the wearer and viewer. Kamata graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 2006, where he also worked as an assistant professor. His work is included in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Deedie Rose collection in Dallas.
