Erica Mahinay’s personal interest in human psychology and perception guides her to make paintings that emphasize our connection to the material world. For the Nude series, Mahinay refocuses gestural painting through the sense of touch, rather than an act of mark-making. Traces on the fabric are evidence of the artist’s caresses with paint and an exploration of its texture, and Mahinay has stitched in glove-like finger holes into the sheer panel. Mahinay bases her works on how fabric and acrylic react to the physical properties of light and touch, inviting the viewer to connect to the piece with multiple senses.
