Noam Rappaport

RISING COIL

2016
acrylic, cotton cord, canvas, and wood with artist's frame
35 1/2 x 39 inches

The interlocking panels in LA-based Noam Rappaport’s work exist in a hybrid space between painting and sculpture. Cotton cords move across planes of color, linking the panels and activating the composition. Connection and transition points are crucial to the work, seen here in lines that either rest on top of the surface or absorb into it. Passages of yellow and pink move from rough wood panel to smooth stretched canvas, adding a playful element to this shape-shifting work. Rappaport has exhibited throughout the US, and his work is in the public collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Berkeley Art Museum, and Rubell Family Collection.
