Briefly a member of the Japanese Gutai group, Aine Kinashi is most well-known for his radiant blue canvases that showcase the pigment of the paint and his expressive and energetic handling of the material. In Untitled, layers of cyan, ultramarine, and cerulean smear into gray and black paint, each color pressing into the boundaries of each other and competing for space within the composition. Kinashi builds the paint on top of itself before scratching through the surfaces, forming energetic lines that cut across the composition.
