Thin veils of paint cascade down the canvas in this shimmering work by Dallas artist Tony Horton. His work often revels in the inherent properties of the medium – transparency, viscosity, and tonality –and abstract compositions of pure beauty are the result. Glimmer #2 exists within the lineage set up by Abstract Expressionism, though it has more in common with the poured, stained works of Color Field painter Morris Louis. And though the work asserts itself as abstract, the rippled, undulating surface conjures a variety of natural phenomena, such as a waterfall, lava, or mountainside.
