Green bananas, a shoe store, a motorcycle, and an undulating shoreline – all have been recent subjects of Tyson Reeder’s paintings. The artist says he uses everyday imagery to create a work “where color becomes the subject.” In Sunset, he takes the color palette and subject matter of artists like Matisse, Monet, and Bonnard and transforms them into a contemporary scene of casual, effortless beauty. Reeder’s practice includes curatorial projects and performance work, and his work has been included in solo and group shows throughout the US.
