Matthew Ronay

basswood, dye, plastic, and gouache
16 x 31 x 15 1/2 inches

Whimsical and mysterious, Matthew Ronay’s beautifully carved wooden sculptures seem to come from the artist’s fully contained universe of biomorphic forms. Ronay’s blend of surrealism, science fiction, and biology stands in contrast to the craft-like technique of carving and staining wood. The soft, matte surfaces and bright colors add to their presence as handmade objects, crafted out of the imagined world of the artist. Ronay’s work has been exhibited at museums and galleries in the US and Europe.
