Justin Adian

oil enamel on canvas over ester foam
85 x 27 x 3 inches

Justin Adian’s work is as good as a vinyl top of a 1969 Dodge Charger. – Richard Prince

Justin Adian’s puffy, geometric works play with the conventions of painting and sculpture. Adian’s forms exists within the lineage of artists like Ellsworth Kelly, Lynda Benglis, and Eva Hesse who created wall-bound “paintings” that assert themselves as objects. Tension is generated by Adian’s organic, bodily shapes juxtaposed with a slick, machine-like surface. The artist meticulously refines his compositions, perfecting the moments where various elements touch and activate the negative space between them. Adian was born in Fort Worth, and lives and works in New York. His work has been shown in the US and Europe.
