BFC TO O
black ink and charcoal on paper
47 3/8 x 71 x 1 1/2 inches
In black-and-white drawings Japanese artist Hiroki Tsukuda depicts an imagined world he began forming as a child growing up in remote Shikoku Island, which he named the “outer worlds” or just “O.” These futuristic landscapes borrow conventions from science fiction and street art, and Tsukuda constructs his works from recognizable architectural and industrial elements. The fragmented imagery and text become a jumbled, dystopian world expressively illustrated by the artist. Tsukuda has exhibited regularly in Europe and more recently in the US.
