Eric Bainbridge

UNTITLED
2015
synthetic fur fabric
55 1/8 x 55 1/8 inches

British artist Eric Bainbridge often incorporates found objects and his signature material, synthetic fur fabric, into formal compositions that humorously blend refinement and kitsch. This untitled “painting” dresses ovoid shapes and jagged rectangles in the fur’s artificial color and texture. The pink, silky fibers activate the geometric forms lying on the canvas, playfully engaging the viewer’s senses. Eric Bainbridge first gained acclaim for his fur-covered sculptures in the 1980s, and his work is held in numerous public and private institutions, including the Tate.
