Dima Rebus

watercolor on paper
28 3/4 x 30 inches

A master of the traditional watercolor technique, Russian artist Dima Rebus often imbues contemporary scenes with an unsettling atmosphere. Though they are meticulously painted and contain beautiful flourishes of color, his works often shift in tone under closer inspection. In this work, birds appear to be removing cigarette butts from a container. Combined with the work’s punky title, the serene setting suddenly becomes strange and disconcerting. Rebus’ work has been shown in Russia, Argentina, and Belgium.
