Tomory Dodge

ANVIL

2014
collage on paper
12 x 16 inches

Both analytical and expressive, LA artist Tomory Dodge has long explored paintings truest properties – surface, background/foreground, texture, and depth. In this collage, gradations of color stack up in a tightly composed arrangement. Dodge’s imagery often hovers between painting and photography, and many of the cropped rectangles in this work appear to be paintings of photographs, or vice versa. Dodge’s work is included in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC; and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others.
