REENACTMENT V.6

2010
commercial enamel on aluminum
27 x 36 inches

The works in Timothy Tompkins Reenactment series start as screenshots taken of various historical documentaries that are then digitally manipulated and ultimately painted. Even though these works are from specific films, Tompkins is compelled by the ambiguous presence of the paintings. The image in Reenactment V.6 reflects both a metaphorical and literal narrative which, upon closer observation, dissolves into stunning forms and colors. Anthony Tompkins work is included in the collections of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles; the West Collection, Oaks; and Harvard Business School, Cambridge. His work has been included in exhibitions at Santa Monica Museum of Art; Brevard Art Museum, Melbourne; Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach; and Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans.
