The reason I paint the way I do, the way I make images, is because there is an honesty and straightforwardness about it. And it’s a way of sort of communicating with my people, in a sense. — Rob Davis
A mysterious simplicity infiltrates Rob Davis’ work. His choice of imagery, often taken from photographs, hints at a detail in a story or a fragment of time that is ultimately transformed into a greater poetic moment through Davis’ painting style. Here, a pink dress hangs behind a door, waiting for the occasion that will bring it to life. Davis’ work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at The Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, among others, and his work has been included in group shows at institutions such as Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami; Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples; and The Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh.
