Power, control, and violence have emerged as the dominant themes in Davina Semo’s work. In this work, Semo’s jarring title indicates that the battered folding chairs pierced by a steel pipe are likely stand-ins for people treated as offenders or perpetrators, not as unique individuals. Though painted bright yellow, the folding chairs maintain their presence as temporary sites for groups to gather, sit, and wait, under the control of some authoritative entity. Semo’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe.
