Dallas artist Anna Membrino grounds her abstract landscapes with natural objects – stones, plants, and seashells – inviting viewers to see these familiar forms as their surrogates within the scene. Overtly painterly elements like the gray marbling seen in the stone of this work contrast against the implied horizon line and natural lighting. This flatness pushes against the perceived physicality of the landscape, hovering between an inhabitable three-dimensional space and invented environment. Membrino has exhibited in Texas and California.
