Berlin-based Shannon Finley creates futurist-inspired compositions through complex, digitally-rendered shapes and a luminous application of acrylic paint. The jewel-like facets in Twilight emanate from a smoky glaze achieved by Finley’s layering of gel medium and pigment, producing the dramatic dripped edge of his works. Subtle tonal shifts seem to reflect light in the diamond patterning built on his explorations into the angles of rhombuses. Finley’s meticulous style and intensely worked surface build on works of other abstract artists, calling to mind the Italian Futurists, Gerhard Richter, and Sarah Morris.
