LA-based Jason Bailer Losh composes sculptural arrangements from various found objects gathered by his father-in-law in North Carolina. He quickly sketches the completed sculptures, reckoning with the positive and negative space of the construction, and uses these sketches as the basis for either more classical and formalist paintings or bronze reliefs, like this one. The playful line work of a spontaneous sketch is made eternal by casting the gesture, and the metal grooves ask the viewer to follow along with the artist’s movement.
