Amanda Ross-Ho translates and transforms objects from pop culture, asking us to consider them with fresh eyes. Black Rags (I Still Hate Mondays) is from a series of giant sliced-up t-shirts the artist recently fabricated. Enlarged beyond human use, the garment is now in the territory of tapestry or fabric sculpture, and becomes an opportunity to consider the formal choices that went into weaving, cutting, and knotting the pop culture object it pays homage to. Ross-Ho has had solo exhibitions at a number of museums, and she was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
