Gesso, clay, precious metal leafing, and pigments are manipulated by artist Yoshiaki Mochizuki in his patterned works on panel. Mochizuki scratches lines with a pin into the layered materials, embedding a geometric composition into the richly textured surface. Due to the reflective quality of the work, the image changes based on the viewer’s interaction with the piece and the quality of light. Born in Tokyo, Mochizuki attended the Fashion Institute of Technology before receiving his MFA from Hunter College.
