New York-based Jason Tomme photographed rocks along the wall of a tunnel for his Friends series. Lit only by the existing light coming through the tunnel at an angle, the stones become solitary, melancholic characters in their hidden location. The concrete backgrounds of the images have graffiti on them, evidence of a secretive human presence and clandestine activities. Though dark and industrial, the images possess a quiet emotional power. Tomme has exhibited his work at venues throughout the US.
