Evan Nesbit

POROSITY (PINK DREDGE)

2015
acrylic, dye, and burlap
42 x 36 x 2 inches

Pink paint oozes through the coarse weave of burlap fabric in this tactile work by Evan Nesbit. The historical practice of using a canvas as the support for the paint is upended by the dye – soaked through the burlap – and the paint – pushed through the back. And though the work is an artistic fabrication, its impact is as a real, visceral remnant, compelling as an object with raw, textural properties. Utterly compelling, the work challenges many traditional uses and interpretations of paint on canvas. Nesbit has participated in gallery exhibitions in the US, Europe, and Japan.
