In her “repaired landscapes,” Annabel Daou combines words, tape, and paper into delicately layered compositions. Her repeated phrases might be read as either emotional pleas or meditative mantras. Here, the phrase “look for me” is written on repair tape and woven through handmade paper in a spray of diagonal lines. The transparent, barely-there quality of the work evokes a somber, yet delicate, atmosphere of memory and healing. Daou’s work has been included in numerous one-person and group exhibitions, including the 2011 Venice Biennale (representing Lebanon, where she was born).
