Roni Horn is a significant post-minimalist artist with a career spanning four decades. Here, Horn presents a series of photographs that are an extension of her key work, You are the Weather, from 1994-1996. These photographs are of the same woman, 15 years later, in the hot springs and pools in Iceland. In each photo, the woman’s facial expression changes according to the weather conditions around her. Horn notes of this work that, “I was curious to see if I could elicit a place from her face, almost like a landscape. Not in the literal sense, but how close those identities were.” In the final work, Horn complicates notions of surface, skin, emotion, and landscape, simultaneously reflecting the making of the work itself. Horn lives and works in New York. Recent major solo exhibitions include Hamburger Kunsthalle and Kunsthaus Bregenz. In November 2009, Horn’s comprehensive survey exhibition, Roni Horn aka Roni Horn opened at Tate Modern and travelled to Collection Lambert in Avignon, France; Whitney Museum, New York; and The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Horn’s works are featured in numerous major international institutions and collections including Guggenheim Museum, New York; MoMA, New York; The Art Institute of Chicago; Tate Modern, London; Kunsthalle Hamburg; Kunsthaus Zürich; and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
